The Melt team was approached by Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines (RCCL) to create unique next-generation beyond HD visuals for the latest ship in their fleet – The Celebrity Edge. Poised to raise the bar on modern luxury travel to even greater heights, the entertainment offerings on board are as game-changing as the ship itself. Unveiling RCCL’s most technologically advanced theatre of the entire fleet, the goal – to elevate their guest experience for their main auditorium shows. The Edge also offers the most productions of any ship in the brand’s history, the largest cast of world-class performers on any premium cruise ship, providing a one-of-a-kind venue with never-before-seen visuals to entertain all ages. Lisa Lutoff-Perlo, President and CEO of Celebrity Cruises describes the ship’s offerings as, “Daring and bold, dynamic and refreshing, surrounding you at every turn. We are changing the future of our entertainment – just as we are with everything we are doing on Celebrity Edge.” The Theatre on the Celebrity Edge is like no other, and Melt Creative was hired to partner with RCCL to bring this unique space to life. The curtain has been eliminated altogether, blurring the line between audience and performance, immersing guests in an entertainment experience like no other. With four stage areas and three gigantic moving projection screens the theatre offers an ever-changing canvas for its productions. The main stage extends into the audience creating a theater-in-the-round sensation. A duo-directional rotating platform raises almost seven feet above the stage to take performances to a whole new level. With two rotating spiral staircases, 10 synchronized panoramic projection screens, 16 state-of-the-art video mapping laser projectors, aerial performance rigging and more the technology behind the scenes will at times steal the show. Working with Electro Visual Revolution Worldwide, the Melt team created multiple beyond HD unforgettable visual spectaculars for this one-of-a-kind video canvas. Fully immersive designs were implemented for the theater shows which include the moving projection surfaces and a variety of special effects. Visual branded custom content packages were paired up with the appropriate music to inspire, move, and entertain the ship’s guests.
